It is critical to apply the clicking reinforcement and deliver the reinforcer immediately after the desired behavior. The more prompt we are with the clicker after the behavior the quicker the dog will understand the association between the events. We repeat this dozens of times and the dog will realize there is a connection between behavior and hearing that familiar clicking sound and receiving a treat. While food is the most common reinforcer it is not the only motivation for good behavior. Dogs love to play fetch or go for walks and many other fun activities that can be used as the treat. Here are some dog clicker training videos that you might find helpful. Good luck with your clicker training and come back to visit us again soon.
